Darkwood – Careful, There’s a Roguelike Lurking in That Trailer

Boo! but open world.

When most people think of survival horror games, the first thing that comes to mind probably isn’t an isometric roguelike in an open world environment. After all, one of the most basic methods of creating a tense atmosphere in games like that usually involves attaching the camera to your character’s meticulously sculpted ass, or giving you a very narrow field of view. Acid Wizard Studios are having none of that with Darkwood however, as they’re clearly not afraid to scare the daylights out of you despite giving you a clear, isometric perspective to play with.

That’s not the only big thing to note here, as I’m pretty sure that nobody has tried combining survival horror and a procedurally generated open world, and then tying it together with insidious roguelike strings. The game’s still pretty early in development though, and could use a bit of help getting greenlit on Steam, which would also earn it some much needed exposure. They’re also trying to raise a rather humble amount of cash to help development along over on Indiegogo if you wanna get in on the ground floor. Here’s a handy trailer featuring some early gameplay footage that should give you a really dark, scary idea of what to expect.

to a T

to a T has everything you want. Colourful characters, catchy earworm songs, and a story with as much heart as insanity. Even if it is held back by a clunky camera and questionable tedium.
